Rapper highlights plight of the wrongfully convicted with powerful verse

Rapper and activist Silent Knight drops one of several verses from the perspective of a man wrongfully accused and convicted. The excerpt was from the News Beat podcast, which melds high-level, social justice journalism, with music, and original Hip Hop from independent artists.

The episode, "Exonerated and Broke" examines the plight of people facing wrongful convictions, and what happens when they are found innocent and released from prison, sometimes after decades of incarceration. Of particular focus was the difficulty these people have to go through to receive compensation from a system that committed these injustices in the first place.

The collaboration led Silent Knight to be chosen as an artist ambassador for the Innocence Project, an organization which works "to free the innocent, prevent wrongful convictions, and create fair compassionate, and equitable systems of justice for everyone."

Silent Knight is News Beat's artist-in-residence and the podcast is co-produced, edited and hosted by Hip-Hop Can Save America! host, Manny Faces.

Hip-Hop Can Save America! The Livestream Show airs Mondays, 9pm ET on this YouTube channel.
